Seminar: “NextGen Bio-based Fertilisers – Products and Impact”
SUSFERT hosted the seminar “NextGen Bio-based Fertilisers – Products and Impact at the City Hall of Quinto Vicentino
In the heart of the province of Vicenza, in Quinto Vicentino, the SUSFERT “NextGen Biobased Fertilisers – Products and Impact” hybrid seminar unfolded. Blending online accessibility with in-person engagement, the event showcased a diverse panel of speakers from academia, industry, and EU policy experts. At its core, the seminar aimed to unveil findings from the EU co-funded SUSFERT project, to contextualise them with the upcoming EU regulations, and to hear perspectives from industry and science.
SUSFERT addresses the urgency for more sustainable, biobased, multifunctional fertilisers, considering environmental concerns, the degrading quality of arable land, and the increasing scarcity of resources. As global demands strain traditional farming methods, the project positions itself at the forefront of innovation, working towards solutions that not only enhance soil and groundwater quality but also aims to offer farmers competitive alternatives to conventional fertilisers.
Preparing for the EU 2030 regulations on biobased fertilisers
The looming 2030 EU regulations on fertilisers add significance to SUSFERT’s mission. By laying the groundwork for compliance, the project anticipates a future where agricultural practices not only meet regulatory standards but also contribute to healthier ecosystems. It’s not just about adherence; it’s about creating a market-worthy shift that benefits both farmers and the environment.
The first half of the event featured captivating presentations on innovations achieved during the project laying the ground for the following thought-provoking panel discussion: The future of EU agriculture policy and where SUSFERT prototype products may play an important role in the transition to sustainable farming.
The distinguished panel included Mr. Leon Fock, Chairman of EUROFEMA; Mr. Adriano Altissimo, the visionary founder, and CEO of Landlab (www.landlab.net); Mr. Marc Spiller, post-doctoral researcher at the University of Antwerp; and Mr. Sylvain Pluchon, Director for R&D at Groupe Roullier. Their collective expertise facilitated a comprehensive exploration of the seminar’s theme.
SUSFERT’s Final Conference: hear about the project’s greatest achievements and key products for the bio-based fertiliser market
Anticipation now turns to the grand finale – SUSFERT’s final conference at the end of November, 2023. This event will also embrace a hybrid format, allowing a broad audience to engage in discussions that will shape the future of agriculture. It’s not just an endpoint; it’s a culmination of efforts, a collective stride towards a greener, more sustainable agricultural landscape. As we look forward to the conference, we are poised at the precipice of a transformative era in farming, one where innovation and sustainability go hand in hand.
